New Dates!

August 9 - 14, 2023

Join Lauren Wood, host of the Women in Trial Travel Summit, for a specially curated small group trip to Peru in August of 2023*. This small group trip will be held over 6 days, starting in the culturally dense city of Cusco, then seeing UNESCO World Heritage site Machu Picchu, and ending the trip in the Sacred Valley. Attendees will take in the wonderful things that Peru has to offer, while simultaneously checking off three hours of MCLE* specialty credits. You'll go sightseeing in Cusco, a city known for its unique history, incredible food and stunning architecture. After spending two days acclimating to the altitude, you'll take a trip on the famed Hiram Bingham luxury train, which serves incredible food and Pisco sours alongside musical entertainment as you travel along the stunning Peruvian landscape. You'll see the ancient Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. You'll spend two nights in Aguas Calientes, then head to the Sacred Valley for one more night to experience another part of the Peruvian countryside. Accommodations, private tours, transportation and all hosted meals are included. If you are looking to spend a week bonding with your female colleagues, sharing trial stories, discussing cases, and checking off three hours of MCLE** specialty credits—all while experiencing what beautiful Peru has to offer—then this group trip is not to be missed.

*Note: This trip was rescheduled from the original February dates due to the temporary closure of Machu Picchu. We are excited to report that Machu Picchu is back open again!

**MCLE credits are pending State Bar approval.

Wednesday, August 9

Arrive in Cusco

Flights to Cusco typically leave in the evening, have a layover in Lima, and then arrive in the morning the following day. So most attendees will leave Tuesday night and arrive Wednesday morning. At the airport, you'll greet your fellow travelers and get picked up by private cars to take everyone to the hotel in town, which is the Luxury Collection property, Palacio del Inka. Cusco is a vibrant city, and you'll see sites like Plaza de Armas, the Cusco Cathedral and stroll through the alleys of the San Blas neighborhood. That night, you'll all dine together at a restaurant in town.

Thursday, August 10

Machu Picchu

Sure to be your favorite day, on Thursday morning you will say a temporary farewell to Cusco and head off to Machu Picchu! You'll board the Hiram Bingham luxury train, where you'll see Peruvian dancers and musicians perform throughout the trip, have a wonderful three course lunch and sip Pisco sours. Around noon, you'll arrive in Aguas Calientes and then head up by bus to tour the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu, a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. After the tour, you'll check in to the hotel, where the group will enjoy dinner together.

Hike Huayna Picchu

Have you ever noticed that tall pointy mountain in the background of just about every photo you've seen of Machu Picchu (depicted next to the description for February 17th)? Well, that mountain is Huayna Picchu. And you're going to hike it! Only a limited amount of visitors are allowed permits to hike Huayna Picchu each day, and you will be one of them. In the morning, you will head out on our group hike right after breakfast. You will enjoy lunch back at the hotel after our hike, where you'll see a culinary demonstration and cocktail making class afterwards. Rest up in the afternoon or walk to Aguas Calientes' town square. We'll all enjoy dinner together in town that evening.

Saturday, August 12

Return to Cusco

You'll start with breakfast at the hotel, then do a short hike to the Mandor Valley and to see the butterfly sanctuary, then hop on the Vistadome train back to Cusco. You'll check back into the Palacio del Inka in the afternoon, then spend the day shopping and checking out the sites. A recommendation: hit up the Belmond Hotel for their famous Pisco sours in the late afternoon. At the end the day, you'll join back up with the group for a dinner together at a restaurant on the Plaza de Armas square in Cusco's city central.

Sunday, August 13

MCLEs in Cusco

You'll start with breakfast at the hotel, then get in your three hours of MCLEs in a private conference room at the hotel in the morning. Lunch will be served at a popular restaurant in town. In the afternoon, spend the day shopping and checking out the sites. Visit the super cute San Blas neighborhood, see the awe-inspiring Cusco Cathedral, and meander the cobblestone streets while admiring the Spanish colonial architecture. Dinner will be hosted and spent together as a group at the hotel.

Monday, August 14

Return Home

Since we can't all be out of the office all the time, this was intentionally created as a short trip. The hosted trip ends on Monday, when most of the group will return home. Guests who wish to experience more of Peru are encouraged to stay after the trip. Don't fret though: depending on when you depart, you'll likely still get a full day in Cusco before heading home, as most of the flights leave for the U.S. in the evening.

Space for this trip is limited and it is anticipated that it will fill up quickly. After registration, you will be sent a link to pay a $500 deposit. Your spot cannot be held without paying the deposit. You will have three (3) days to pay the deposit; after which, if payment has not been received, your spot may be given away to someone else. This is a group trip.  If you cannot commit to being on time—as a courtesy to other attendees—then this trip is also not for you. Similarly, if you do not do well in a small group setting, you may want to reconsider attending.

If you can commit to being respectful of other attendees, are open to trying new foods, and are looking for a trip where you will bond with like-minded female trial lawyers, enjoy amazing food and experience what the incredible Peruvian culture has to offer, then it would be our pleasure to host you.

Because the trains to Machup Picchu limit luggage, attendees will need to reduce some items into a "weekend bag" for our two days at Machu Picchu. A duffel bag will be provided to attendees, so don't worry about having to bring one. We will be able to safely check our other belongings at the Palacio del Inka (a Marriott property) to store our belongings while we are away. Permitted luggage for the two day trip to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu must not exceed 05 kg / 11 lbs per passenger.

Flights & Travel Information

Flights to Cusco typically in the evening and arrive in the morning the following day. There are no direct flights from Los Angeles to Cusco. Most flights have a layover in Lima. Attendees should book a flight that leaves sometime in the evening on Tuesday and arrives in the morning around 9:00 am on Wednesday. If you need help with flights, please do not hesitate to reach out to Lauren for help.

*All attendees are required to purchase a travel insurance policy that includes medical coverage. While any travel insurance policy with medical coverage will suffice, attendees are strongly encouraged to purchase a policy with Cancel for Any Reason coverage. In the event that life gets in the way last minute and you are required to cancel within thirty (30) days of the trip, for a reason that is not covered by typical insurance policies, Cancel for Any Reason coverage may help get some of your money back. Please read the entirety of our cancellation policy, along with general Terms & Conditions, HERE.
