July 1 - 8, 2024

The  WITTS Small Group Trip to Greece took place in July of 2024. Attendees enjoyed a mix of culture, history, food and beautiful beaches in the Greek Islands.  Attendees started off in Athens, where they toured the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the  New Acropolis Museum and more. Then they flew to the picturesque island of Santorini. The sunsets in Oia were just breathtaking! There, the group stayed two nights in Santorini where shopped, dined and strolled through the cute towns of Fira and Oia. Next, the group took the ferry to the nearby island of Naxos, where they got a flavor for more traditional Greek culture. Naxos is known for incredible food, wine and olive oil, so the group ate and drank their way through Naxos on this three day part of the trip. This trip also included the Mykonos add-on, which added two additional nights in Mykonos.

Arrive in Athens

Travelers to Athens will depart the US on Sunday, June 30th and arrive in Athens the following day (Monday). You'll be picked up by private transportation and taken to New Hotel in Athens city center. The group is arriving at different times, so we will all meet up at the hotel and then the evening will be free to do as you please. Use the evening to get situated in your hotel and either explore Athens' nightlife or stay in to rest for the day ahead. Tuesday is a big day, where we'll see many of Athens' historical sites.

On your first full day in Athens, you'll take a guided walking tour of the popular sites to see: the Acropolis, where you'll explore the Parthenon before the crowds show up and see the iconic Temple of Hephaestus. You'll explore the Acropolis with an expert guide and see the Monumental Gateway, Erechtheum, Theater of Dionysus and Herodes Atticus, as well as panoramic views over the city. Later that afternoon, the group will enjoy a hosted cooking class and dinner together at ERGON House.

After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we'll head to the airport to catch a short flight to Santorini (note: this flight is included). Two groups of flights depart at 10 and 10:30 am. Arriving in Santorini around noon, we'll drop our bags at the beautiful new NOŪS Santorini Hotel. We will get situated at the hotel, then all go into Fira together, where we will spend the afternoon. There, you can shop, dine and drink your way through the picturesque white buildings. We will stay in town and then meet up for a hosted dinner together at 8:00 pm at ARGO restaurant in Fira.

Full Day in Santorini

There are so many wonderful things to see and do in Santorini. After breakfast, we will visit the town of Oia, where you can shop in cute artisan shops and enjoy walking through the beautiful streets. The group will have the afternoon free to stay in town or head to a nearby beach. It is the 4th of July, after all, so attendees will choose whether or not they want to stay in town or celebrate our very non-Greek holiday in a bikini by the beach or at a club. That afternoon and evening will be a "free day" so that attendees can choose to stay by the beach, go to a club or go into town to see the sights.

In the morning, we'll take the ferry to the nearby island of Naxos (ferry included). Arriving in Naxos around noon, we'll drop our bags at the new hotel, Naxian Rhapsody, then grab lunch together before walking to nearby Agios Prokopios Beach. The afternoon will be free for attendees to choose to stay by the beach, go into town, or visit the nearby Archaeological Museum, the Ancient Sanctuary of Apollo and Demeter, the famed Temple of Apollo, or the Sanctuary of Dionysus. That evening, the group will enjoy a hosted dinner together at Stelida Restaurant at 8:00 pm.

Saturday, July 6

Boat Day!

Yep, you guessed it: we'll be having a boat day! Usually one of the best days on a WITTS Small Group Trip, you'll spend the day out on the water in a private catamaran charter. Spend a wonderful day exploring the highlight spots of the coastline of Naxos, while soaking up the sun, snorkeling and enjoying the stunning white sand beaches. This is a full day charter, so once our boat day is done, we'll head back to the hotel. The evening will be free to either relax at the hotel or keep the party going and check out the nightlife.

After our morning educational sessions, we'll take off in the afternoon to explore the Melanes Valley's olive groves, ancient wonders, and Eggares valley's food paradise. Witness olive oil production, cheese making in a hidden farm, and savor Naxian farm flavors at a local tavern. That evening, we will enjoy a final hosted meal together as a group back at our hotel at 8:00 pm.

Monday, July 8

Depart Home... or to Mykonos

The official one-week Greek Island trip ends today, but if you choose to extend your trip, you can also add on a two night stay in Mykonos before heading home. Those attending the main trip will take their own flight back to Athens (in case you choose to stay on your own or head to another island) on Monday. If you opt for the Mykonos add-on, you'll board a ferry to Mykonos, where you'll check into Grace Hotel and head right into town. In Mykonos, we'll all do dinner together and then hit up one of its famed nightclubs.
